The History Museum is the place for conserving and documenting Barcelona’s heritage. The museum also works to spread knowledge about the city’s history, from its origins to the present day – from the Roman colony of Barcino and its walls to the age of the revolution of medieval commerce and the great Gothic buildings; from the testimonies of the industrial revolution to Cerdà’s Eixample district and the works of Modernisme and Gaudí, and from the turbulent, creative Barcelona of the early 20th century to the city of the Olympic Games.
As a next step of this cultural visit, you explore the Spanish gastronomy doing your own private tapas tour! “Tapa” is the Spanish word to describe the old custom of serving a slice of ham covering the mouth of a wine glass. By doing so, the wine was protected from the air and the ham made a tasty appetizer. As it happens with Spanish traditional cooking, tapas vary between regions reflecting the differences in ingredients and preparations – even the names used to describe these little dishes can be very different!
